let’s make some : “kiekjes”
30 Nov '14 12:00 by Rene de Wit in leiden
This month we will meet in Leiden at the „kiekmonument” (Kiekpad, Leiden), the memorial for Israel David Kiek, a photographer in the old days where photo’s were sepia (brown).
Israel Kiek was a photographer in Leiden from 1858 until 1892 and he was famous for his group photo’s of students. The photo’s were spontaneous because the students were mostly drunk. He did not like to make the photos of the students so he shot them without looking in the camera. This is were the name “kiekje” comes from.
The goal for this meeting is to make photo’s shot from the hip ; “a Kiekje” in sepia.
Afterwards we will have a drink in Stadscafé Van der Werff were there is an exibition with photo’s of Kiek.
I hope to see you here, René.
