Out Of The Box

August, a perfect month to think Out Of The Box. And that’s what we are going to do on Saturday August 10th, when we are going to hit the Amsterdam canals by paddle boat (waterfiets). Amsterdam is ubercool as it is on land already, but it might be even cooler from a more fluid point of view.
We will meet up at 13:00 at the Gay monument at the Westermarkt (for those from outside of Amsterdam: take tram 13 or tram 17 from the western side of Amsterdam Central station, and get out at the Westermarkt stop). From there, it’s a short walk to the Westerkerk spot of the Canal Company, where we can rent the paddle boats and get going as of 13:30 for about 3 hours.
More information about the route and the precise costs will follow later on, so keep following this thread, as we provide you with more information as soon as possible. But we estimate that 3 hours of paddling is going to cost around 30 euros per person, including deposit. If the group is big enough, we MIGHT be able to arrange a discount, but that’s not guaranteed for now.

Important to know:
Our main goal is to organize this meetup on Saturday August 10th. But knowing our fantastic Dutch climate, we keep Sunday August 11th in mind as a backup date, in case we would have to cancel the meetup on the 10th due to for example poor weather. Therefore, please tell us about your availability regarding both August 10th and August 11th.

We are fairly laidback, but we do have a couple of rules for this meetup, in order to prevent things from becoming a mess.
* To make sure there is room for you on the paddle boat, registration on our Facebook event or an email to thea@urbanphotocollective.com is required before August 4th, 2013.
* Everybody is responsible for keeping his/her paddle boat in tact, and for returning it in time. That might be a little harsh, but it’s obviously even more harsh if the entire group would have to pay for your failure.
* Please bring cash with you, preferably smaller notes. Plastic payments are not allowed in this meetup, unless you don’t mind paying for all the people you shared a paddle boat with.
And because we are such good kind of people, here are some tips:
* Amsterdam might be the self proclaimed Venice of the North, but we don’t have any shops directly at the water. As this meetup is going to give you quite some exercise, you might want to bring a snack and/or a drink with you. And please think of a plastic bag or some other kind of garbage disposal item. The Amsterdam canals aren’t particularly clean, but at least we intend to not make them any dirtier.
* Especially if the weather is going to get sunny, we would like to advise you to bring some sunblock. After all, you will go to places with little to no shade on a surface that’s also reflecting sunlight.
